Gaither Music Group Artists Celebrate 2017 GMA DOVE Award Nominations

The Gaither Music Group stable of artists were honored with nine 2017 GMA DOVE Award nominations across five categories, according to the press conference held on Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee, hosted by theGospel Music Association via Facebook LIVE.

"We are thrilled to see our artists honored in this way," stated vice president of Gaither Music Group Paul Sizelove. "We are proud of our legendary artists and excited for our up-and-coming ones, and we are grateful to receive this show of support from the Gospel Music Association and its members."

Gospel Music Hall of Fame members and GRAMMY® Award winners the Gaither Vocal Band were nominated for Southern Gospel Artist of the Year, Southern Gospel Album of the Year (Better Together) andSouthern Gospel Song of the Year for "Better Together," a timeless anthem that celebrates the power of unity in an age of divisiveness.

Featured on the quintet's latest 12-song release, "Better Together" was written by Gaither, Reba Rambo-McGuire, Dony McGuire and Chip Davis. "We have heard it said that our strength lies in our diversity," stated Gaither. "But I've come to believe that our strength lies in coming together in spite of our differences. I still believe that there is more that unites us than divides us, and I believe the songs on this recording celebrate the things that bring us together."

Better Together (Gaither Music Group), which brought together the production talents ofBen Isaacs (Jimmy Fortune, The Oak Ridge Boys), tenor David Phelps and Gaither, debuted at #1 on the Southern Gospel chart and at #9 on the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) chart, according toNielsen SoundScan. The recording, also nominated for a2017 GRAMMY® Award for Best Roots Gospel Album, features the top-charting radio single "Working on a Building." The Gaither Vocal Band has garnered five GRAMMY® nominations, two GRAMMY® Awards and 17 GMA DOVE Awards to date.

Country singer and Alabama native Bradley Walker received his first three DOVE nominations surrounding his sophomore release, Call Me Old-Fashioned (Gaither Music Group/Farmhouse Recordings), produced by longtime friend, singer and songwriter Rory Feek (Joey+Rory).

A well-loved performer for years among country and bluegrass music circles, Walker is a storyteller. Those stories and his heartwarming baritone voice garnered nods for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year; Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Song of the Year for "Don't Give Up on Me," written by Jimmy Yeary and Rory Feek; andSouthern Gospel Song of the Year for "The Right Hand of Fellowship," written by Larry Cordle and Leslie Winn Satcher.

GRAMMY®-winning husband-and-wife duo Joey+Rory have been nominated for Southern Gospel Artist of the Year. The beloved duo, who took home the 2016 GRAMMY® Award forBest Roots Gospel Album, is also currently nominated forVocal Duo of the Year at the 2017 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards; and they were nominated for the same category at the 2016 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.

The couple were honored with the 2016 DOVE Award forLong Form Video of the Year ( Hymns That Are Important to Us). Directed by Daniel Grace and produced byAaron Carnahan, Joel McAfee and Gaither, Hymns That Are Important to Us held the #1 spot on the Music Video Sales chart for months, reaching gold status.

The audio companion to the acclaimed video was the first recording in nearly a decade to top both the Top Country andTop Christian Albums charts. The CD debuted at #1 on the Country Music chart, remained in the Top 10 on that chart for 20 weeks and was the #2 Top-Selling Country Album for 2016. Creators and hosts of "The Joey+Rory Show," on RFD-TV, which airs in 50 million households weekly, Joey+Rory's everyday lives, relationship and music have been featured in recent months on"CBS Sunday Morning," NBC's "Today," People Magazine, "Entertainment Tonight," ABC News, CNN, Time, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and more.

David Phelps scored a 2017 DOVE nomination for Southern Gospel Artist of the Year. The classically-trained tenor/producer/songwriter/arranger has enjoyed a busy year touring and releasing a studio recording, Hymnal (Gaither Music Group), featuring all-new arrangements of some of the most revered songs in the church today. The recording debuted at #1 on theSouthern Gospel chart and at #5 on the CCM chart according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Phelps, one of the most recognized artists on the Gaither HOMECOMING Series and known as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band for over 15 years, has won two GRAMMY® Awards and four GMA DOVE Awards.

GRAMMY® and GMA DOVE Award-winning artist Guy Penrod received a nomination forSouthern Gospel Album of the Year for his latest release, Classics (Gaither Music Group/Servant Records), a recording that features some of his most requested hits during his 14-year tenure as lead singer with the Gaither Vocal Band.

Produced by Penrod, the new collection contains "The Baptism of Jesse Taylor," "The Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference," "Yes, I Know," "Then Came the Morning," "Because He Lives" and more fan favorites that highlight his unmistakable, powerhouse tones. Host of DayStar Television's Emmy Award-winning "Gospel Music Showcase" program, Penrod's music has been applauded in the gospel as well as country music formats.
